FROM THE FRAGRANT HARBOUR TO THE MELTING POT.
Hongkongers in New york
Inspired by Humans of New York, I am currently working on a photo collection of Hongkongers living in NYC to explore their stories of self-identity.
In recent years, articles and news about the political movements in Hong Kong have inspired everyone to re-think and re-define the identity of "Hong Kong people." I believe that the process of exploring the Hongkonger identity takes a long time to evolve, requiring continuous digestion and discussions. The identity of Hongkonger may never have an ultimate definition and will remain fluid in the eyes of both Hongkongers and non-Hongkongers.
This ongoing projects involves photos and interviews to understand the mentality of Hong Kong people who have immigrated under different circumstances, including their choices from the past to the future, and the identity of themselves and their next generation.
